Your Personalized Diagnosis: Male Fertility Tests
Your Parenting Potential: Male Evaluation
What is the percentage of male infertility in a couple?
The male factor is present in approximately 40-50% of all cases of infertility in couples. Specifically, 30-40% corresponds to the exclusive male factor, and an additional 10-15% to mixed cases where both members contribute. This statistic shows that infertility is not just a “women's problem” and highlights the importance of both partners being evaluated from the start when there are difficulties in conceiving.
What are male fertility tests?
The evaluation includes spermatogram (complete analysis of semen evaluating concentration, mobility and morphology), hormonal tests (testosterone, FSH, LH), urological physical examination (detection of varicoceles and malformations), and specialized studies such as genetics, cultures or testicular biopsy as needed. The process begins with spermatogram and physical examination, adding additional studies only if initial results show alterations.ns
What preparation is needed before a spermatogram?
A period of sexual abstinence of 2 to 5 days is generally required to ensure sample quality. We'll give you detailed instructions when scheduling the test.
How long does the full male evaluation process take?
The basic evaluation can be completed in one or two visits, but if additional tests or analysis cycles are required, the process could be extended. We will inform you of the estimated times.
What's next after I know the results of my evaluation?
An Avida Fertility specialist will explain the results to you in detail, answer your questions and present you with personalized options to advance your path to parenthood.
Male fertility evaluation: this is how your diagnosis begins
Let's start the evaluation!
Initial specialist consultation
A specialist will assess your medical history, family history, habits and perform a complete physical exam. Aspects such as personal medical history, family history of fertility problems, lifestyle habits, sexual and reproductive history, and occupation with possible exposure to risk factors will be addressed.
Specialized seminogram
Semen analysis is the main test, evaluating volume (1.5-5 ml), concentration (>15 million/ml), mobility (> 40% progressive) and morphology (> 4% normal) according to WHO protocols. Sexual abstinence for 2-5 days and analysis within the first hour after obtaining it is required.
Complete hormone analysis
We evaluate hormones essential for sperm production: FSH, LH, testosterone, prolactin and estradiol. Alterations in these values may indicate problems in the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis responsible for sperm production.
Specialized genetic studies
We perform karyotyping, microdeletions of the Y chromosome, and study of cystic fibrosis in cases of severe infertility. We include sperm DNA fragmentation tests to evaluate the integrity of genetic material, especially useful in cases of recurrent miscarriages or failures in assisted reproduction.
Specialized interpretation of results
Our specialists interpret all the results considering that the values represent statistical limits, they do not determine absolute fertilization capacity. We evaluated oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, teratozoospermia and azoospermia together with a complete medical history.
